During the last part we have seen how to prepare our environment for OS deployment and how to capture OS we are using as reference image for the deployment .
Configuration we did during the last part of our series is only the SCCM related configuration
there is others related to DHCP and Network
Options 66 and 67 must be configured so that a PXE client can locate the PXE point and boot into Windows PE using our boot images
Option 66 is the PXE server name or IP
Option 67 is the file name “SMSBoot\x64\wdsnbp.com”
If your PXE Client “booting computer” and the PXE enabled DP are not in the same subnet , you have to configure IP Helper on your switch
Will continue by creating a new device collection for which the operating system is going to be deployed., Right click on Device Collections, click Create Device Collection.
Provide the name for this collection (Deploy OS), set the Limiting collection to All Systems. Click Next.
We will not define any rules for this collection. Click on Next, the wizard prompts that the collection will not contain any members until we define a membership rule. Click on OK.
Right Task Sequences and click Create Task Sequence.
Choose Install an existing image package. Click Next.
Provide the Task sequence name, click on Browse and specify the Boot Image. Click Next.
Click on Browse and specify the Image Package. Choose Enable the local admin account and set the password .Click Next.
Select the Join a domain, click on Browse and select Domain, Domain OU and specify the account
Named SCCMADMIN for joining. Click Next.
You can specify SCCM Client Installation properties such as Management Point, Fallback status point etc. Click on Next.
We are doing fresh installation (Will not migrate any user data), click on Next.
Select Do not install any software updates. Click Next.
We can add any application to be deployed during the task sequence, Click Next.
Now let’s deploy the task sequence to the device collection that we created. Right Click on the Task Sequence, click on Deploy.
Click on Browse and choose the task sequence and Collection. Click Next.
Set the purpose as Available for only media and PXE. Click Next.
Note the “A network account is required to access content from Windows PE“. Warning we already did that. Click Next.
Click Close .
The device collection has been created. Now we will import the computer information to add the new computer object to this collection. Clickon Devices, click on Import Computer Information.
Choose Import single computer and click Next.
Specify the Computer name, MAC Address of the computer (MAC address of the computer where the OS is going to be deployed) and click Next.
Choose Add computers to the following collection, click on Browse and choose the new device collection that we created. Click Next.
Once the computer information is imported, click on Close. The process of importing this new computer to a new device collection will take few minutes.
We can see the deployment on the imported machine properties
The next step is to start the PXE booting on the machine (after having the DHCP and firewalls configured)
You can monitor the OS Deployment status from the SCCM 2012 console
After the task sequence is finished successfully, we can see that the machine is installed
It is named with the name we imported previously
