System center configuration manager 2012 R2 (Part 8) Adding Secondary Site

We are going to install one secondary site server for SCCM 2012 R2. Generally installing secondary site is recommended if you have Brach with more 500 clients in a remote location, this might overload the network even with the new 2012 Distribution point’s features. if you need software update point or management point at this branch you shoud go for secondary site too.

First we need to add the SCCMAdmin account and the SCCM Site Server account to local administrators group on the machine .

Prerequisites to Install Secondary Site:

Roles / Role Services Required for Secondary Site:

Web Server (IIS) (Can be done by SCCM)

 

· Application Development:

  • ISAPI Extensions

· Security:

  • Windows Authentication

· IIS 6 Management Compatibility:

  • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
  • IIS 6 WMI Compatibility

Features Required for Secondary Site:

·         Remote Differential Compression

·         BITS

. NET Requires both of the following:

  • 3.5 SP1
  • 4.0

Automatic Deployment Rules in SCCM 2012 R2

During the first Part Part1 we have added the Software updated point and tried the Manual Software updates … Here comes the fun part Party smile

Automatic Deployment rule enables you to create update package automatically according to some criteria such as release date. It is possible for example to create update package automatically every month. Once the package is created, it is automatically deployed..

System center configuration manager 2012 R2 (Part 6) Deploying Software Updates 1/2

There are two deployment type for software updates using SCCM 2012 R2 (Manual and Automatic). In Manual software updates deployment, a set of software updates is selected from Configuration Manager Console and these updates are deployed to the target collection and Automatic software updates deployment is configured by using automatic deployment rules

Add Software Update Point Site System Roles in Configuration Manager 2012 R2

 

First we will install the Software Update Point role. From the Configuration Manager Console, open the Administration workspace, expand Overview, click Site Configuration, and Select on Sites. At the top ribbon click on Add Site System Roles.

After we now have our clients installed using any of the methods explained in part 4 , we can finally use our SCCM to  make our life easier Smile….let’s do application deployment !!

At a very high level with 2007 packages we put a bunch of files on the client then told the operating system to execute a command line. The application model is much more elegant. This model allows for user-centric deployments of applications, much better monitoring.

Applications can utilize the new approval request feature. This is the feature that allows the administrator to deploy applications to a wider user base, while still maintaining license control.

Deploy Approval Pending Application

When we deploy the application, we can require the user to request approval to install the application, or we can allow the installation at will, we will be deploying a sample application to the user and this application won’t install unless the SCCM administrator/approver approves it.

Automatically use the client push for discovered computers

In this method we will see how configure client push installation settings. Use this method only if you want the configuration manager clients to get automatically installed on the machine that is discovered.

Click on Administration, Expand Site Configuration, click on Sites, in the Sites list, and select the site for which you want to configure automatic site-wide client push installation. On the top ribbon

click on Client Installation Settings and click on Client Push Installation.

On the Client Push Installation Properties windows, click on General tab, check the box Enable automatic site-wide client push installation. Under System types, select Servers and Workstations.

SCCM 2012 R2 – OSD Task Sequence Error Code 0x80091007

I had this error while trying OS deployment at one of the branch sites last week, I didn’t have any one to get the logs from there “will do future post for that” so I started searching for that Error code it means issue with the hash value .

here is a check list followed in tis order:

1)  remove and re-distribute the content, or create the packages again.

2)Make sure there is no hidden file within any of the package source folders.

3)Make sure enable binary differential compression is enabled

4)last but not least , Changing the memory on the computer fixed the issue (it can be caused if there is RAM Fault ) if you have this issue with few number of machines try this firrst.

SCCM2012 R2 collect local group users custom Report

last week I had case with one of the customers , he wanted to generate Report in all users in all local groups using Configuration Manager 2012 then I came across very helpful post by Sherry Kissinger , so here I am just explaining the sherry’s steps I followed.

The SCCM doesn’t collect Local groups members by itself, so in order to do that download the attached WMI Framework for Local Groups with Logging  .cab file

on Assets and Compliance, Compliance Settings, right-click on “Configuration Baseline” and Import Configuration Data… the .cab file.
